Just Wanted to Say "HI" - Get to Know Me Tag

Hola blog friends!

I know, I know, I went MIA again for a hot minute there. It has been a crazy busy week filled with fun social activities (yay!), getting adjusted to a new job (yay in a different way), preparing for my trip to the States next week, and being super tired during all the in between times.  And in my world, tired=no creativity. What can I say, I guess I am just kind of like this.  (But why am I like this?!).  I really want to get better about actually blogging my social outings.  For some reason, however, I tend to get so caught up in enjoying the moment that taking blog-and-Insta-worthy photos seems to fall by the wayside.  While a great tendency to have for interacting with my friends and family, it isn't the best of tendencies to have as a blogger. The struggle is so real.

That said, I haven't been totally absent--just absent from posting.  Every morning/whenever I have some down time, I am checking my Instafeed, super excited to see what my "blog friends" get up to.  (Does anyone else do this?  Where you feel like the people you follow and interact regularly with on Insta are your friends, even though you've never met in person?  Please say there are more weirdos out there like me!)

Anyhow!

I thought it might be fun to break my radio silence on here with a quick Get to Know Me tag.  In the past few months, this little spot of the internet has been graced with more frequent visits from people that are not my mom.  So it just feels right that we should get more acquainted!

I took inspiration from the tag from this lovely blog.  Usually I find that these tags are a better fit for YouTube, but seeing as I have put my channel on the back burner for now, I thought the blog would be a fun venue.

1. What is your middle name?:  Alexandra.  So I have basically the full name of a tzarina or Russian oil heiress. (If tzarinas and Russian oil heiresses had Lithuanian last names, ha!)
2. What was favorite subject at school?:  History and anything to do with language. I hate math and still do.  Now as an economics student, I feel like I am haunted by numbers.  I can make math happen, but I have to work much harder at it than I do at other subjects. It has been a bit of an academic culture shock over the past few years.
3. What is your favorite drink?:  I feel like I am supposed to talk about like a coffee or something here, but my true favorite drink is a good white wine (Sauvingon Blanc or my favorite Pinot Grigio from Abruzzo) or a margarita.  For non-alcoholic beverages, I have to go with a cappuccino, sparkling water, or Diet Coke.
4. What is your favorite song at the moment?: It is almost as old as I am (which is weird to think about because I think it still sounds fresh), but I keep bumping "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains.
5. What is your favorite food?:  I actually had a bit of a "conversation" with myself about this over the weekend.  My favorite food is burritos (I was eating a burrito as I came to this conclusion, ha!).
6. What is the last thing you bought?:  Groceries to get me through the week before I leave for vacation!
7. Favorite book of all time?:  Pride and Predjudice has been a longtime favorite, as has The Great Gatsby.  I also like My Family and Other Animals and The Aftermath.
8. Favorite Color?:  Blue, but you wouldn't know it from my wardrobe as I wear black, white, and grey almost exclusively.
9. Do you have any pets?:  I can't have pets in my current apartment, sadly.  But at my parents' house, I have my Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, Freddy:
He thinks he is a human and would happily steal my pillow if he could.
They also have a Yorkshire Terrier who is adorable!
10. Favorite Perfume?:   I have been wearing Chanel Chance since I bought my first bottle in France at 16 (perhaps one of the bougie-est sentences I have ever written, ha!).  In the last few years, I have become more interested in other perfumes.  Now I have quite the little collection.  Some other favorites include: Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb (it is actually a fierce competitor for my Chanel), Burberry London, See by Chloe (amazing on hot days), Kenzo pour femme (great when I am not too dressed up, but still want to smell fresh), and Gucci Guilty (my go-to going out fragrance. Too sexy for daytime on me).
11. Favorite Holiday?:
Holiday: Christmas or 17. mai (Norway's national day).  I also enjoy Halloween because I am super interested in creepy stuff.
Vacation: Exploring a new city or hanging on the beach.  Explains why I am so stoked to head to LA in a few weeks!
12. Are you married?: Not currently.
13. Have you ever been out of the country, if so how many times?:  I live out of the country :)
14. Do you speak any other language?:  I switch between English and Norwegian every day, depending on who I am speaking to and what I am doing. I used to be able to do the same with French, but it is rusty at best.  However, if I was plunked down in the middle of the French countryside, I would probably manage.
I also know some rudimentary Spanish, and can understand some Dutch and German.  Oh! And I understand Swedish and can muddle through comprehending some Danish.  But that's normal in Scandinavia hehe.
15. How many siblings do you have?:  One brother.
16. What is your favorite shop?:  This is actually a tough one. I usually end up ordering 90% of my stuff online!  My favorite online stores are Nelly, Coverbrands, and Asos Tall. For physical store fronts, I suppose I will have to be boring and say H&M, Gina Tricot, and Vero Moda. I love a lot of the looks of pieces at Zara, but they are cut too short for my frame (I'm 5'10"/1,78m).
17. Favorite restaurant?: Oh geez!
In Seattle: Bimbos (best tacos and margaritas. OH and tons of musicians from the grunge movement worked there "before they were rockstars").  In my hometown, it's definitely a local restaurant/pub on the harbor.
In Stavanger: Harry Pepper (tex-mex with the best margatitas in town), Renaa (Michelin rated and has the best steaks in town), or Tango (Tango is super fancy, Top Chef kind of stuff but worth it if you have the cash to spend).
In Los Angeles: I could sit on the deck at Anejo all day. Of course it's Mexican food.
18. When was the last time you cried?:  At the end of an Eddie Vedder concert video.  Right as he finished playing "Imagine," a shooting star appeared right over the stage.  "Imagine" was a shared favorite song by Eddie and his late BFF Chris Cornell.  For some reason, the whole scene gave me chills and made this prickly Scorpio a bit misty eyed.
19. Favorite Blog?: There are too many to mention! But I think I have to say Cath's blog is an all time favorite.  I have been following her for years, and just love her attitude and vibe.  She talks to her readers like they are all her bff's, and she has a great style and eye for photography!
I also really like Heidi's blog.  She has a unique style, great makeup tips, isn't afraid to speak her mind, and has pretty awesome taste in music.
20. Favorite Movie?:  "When Harry Met Sally!"  Mostly because Sally is basically me.
21. Favorite TV shows?:  Anything docu-series! Most recently, I loved "The Keepers."  I also enjoy historical programs, which strangely enough is what Netflix always suggests I watch next. Additionally, I love comedies like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "Please Like Me," etc.
Oh, and of course, anything that explores the paranormal, like "Ghost Hunters," "My Ghost Story," etc.
22. PC or Mac?: Mac all day everyday!
23. What phone do you have?: I have an iPhone 6s.
24. How tall are you?: 5’10″ / 1,78m.  For some reason, no one ever seems to believe I am that tall until I stand up.  I even had a guy friend describe me as "petite!" The look on his face when I stood up, suddenly was at eye level with him, and said "really?" was priceless. I think it is because I am relatively short-waisted and have a small ribcage.  It might make me look smaller than I am when sitting.
25. Can you cook?:  Yes, and I am pretty dang good at it if you ask me.  I haven't been flexing my culinary muscles as much recently, but I love to experiment in the kitchen.  One thing I always do, no matter how tired or on a budget I am, is make my own salsa instead of buying it. It is super easy, inexpensive, and gives you so much more salsa than buying a jar from the store does. OH yeah, and it tastes better, too!
